A review meeting was held at the Chief Secretariat under the leadership of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin yesterday regarding the progress work being carried out in relation to the 44th Chess Olympiad-2022 competition to be held in Mamallapuram from 28th of this month to next August 10th.
The Chief Minister made a detailed study of the details of arrival of international chess players, development work done at the airport, security arrangements, accommodation facilities, opening ceremony and closing ceremony arrangements, key invitees invited, awareness activities, Chess Olympiad lamp.
Tourism Minister M. Mathiventhan explained about the facilities of the bus to drop off and pick up from the venue of the sports competitions organized by the tourism department. Public Works Minister A. V. Velu personally inspected the facilities being established for the athletes at the Chennai airport and explained the details to the Chief Minister.
A consultation was also held on declaring a local holiday on 28th for the districts of Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Thiruvallur.
In this situation, Minister AV Velu announced today that 4 districts namely Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu will be given a local holiday on Thursday 28th July in view of the opening ceremony of the 44th Chess Olympiad.
Also, the Russian Chess Federation and some other countries along with them inspected the Battle Points Arena today where the “Chess Olympiad” will be held.
